Nejaa Halcyon

Be warned! Spoilers for the short story "Elusion Illusion" lie within.

Nejaa Halcyon was a member of a well-respected Corellian Jedi family. He married a woman named Scerra, and together they had one son, Valin. He also became good friends with Rostek Horn, his wife's childhood friend and an Inspector in the Corellian Security Force. In the last ten years of his life, Nejaa even partnered with Rostek at times, helping him catch criminals within the Corellian system. Other times, he went on missions for the Jedi Council, although Nejaa, like most Corellian Jedi, preferred to stay close to the Corellian system.

One of Nejaa's Jedi Council missions put him in charge of a taskforce sent out to the Sluis sector in search of a rogue Judicial ship. The ship, the Scarlet Thranta, had started a private war with the Separatists. Included in Nejaa's taskforce were eleven other Jedi, thirty Judiciaries, eight Jedi starfighters, and a Republic cruiser, the Plooriod Bodkin. It is unknown if Nejaa flew one of the starfighters, or even what happened during the mission, for Holonet News gives no further information.

When aiding Rostek, oftentimes he would go incognito, going "undercover" so as to not scare those with whom they would talk. Many people would become scared if they knew they were talking to a Jedi. When incognito, he would conceal his silver-bladed lightsaber in a sheath on his left forearm. When actively hunting down criminals, however, he would wear his traditional Jedi garb, which consisted of green robes and his lightsaber. His wife liked to refer to these clothes as his "hunting clothes." He found that, by going as a Jedi, he could defuse potentially dangerous situations because people were afraid of his reputation. He and Rostek liked to joke about how thieves would run in fright from the silvery light of his blade.

Nejaa was typical of the Halcyon line when it came to his Jedi abilities. He was strong in the area of mental projection, and he exhibited the rare ability of being able to absorb power. He also lacked the telekinetic ability that most other Jedi consider elementary. These are all traits that have been inherited by his descendants.

He began to train his son in the Jedi way when Valin was six. When Nejaa attained the rank of Jedi Master, he followed the Corellian Jedi tradition and had commemorative coins made. He gave one of these coins, which bore his likeness, to Valin.

On the eve of the Clone Wars, Corellia chose to pull out of the Galactic Republic and become neutral. This put the Corellian Jedi in a bad spot. They had a commitment to the Jedi Council and the Republic, but they also felt strong ties to their homeworld. They had sworn to protect both the citizens of Corellia and the citizens of the Republic.

The conflict between their oaths threatened to split the Corellian Jedi. Nejaa stood by his pledge to protect the Republic, but others became more territorial and feared that standing with the Republic Jedi would bring the war to the Corellian system and endanger those they'd sworn to protect. Nejaa became concerned that the territorial faction would become strong enough to prohibit the rest of the Corellian Jedi to partake in the Clone Wars, and so he sought to prove to all of the Corellian Jedi that what happened elsewhere had an effect on them as well. The news that Count Dooku was capturing Jedi only made him believe more strongly that the Confederacy was evil and that something had to be done.

It was about this time that a Techno Union researcher discovered the truth behind his current project, stole the plans and prototype, and sought to join his family in hiding. Jedi Master Mace Windu was in charge of ensuring the researcher made it safely into hiding. Nejaa heard about this and formulated a plan to give the Corellian Jedi another reason why they should fight in the Clone Wars.

With the help of Rostek, Caamasi Jedi Knight Ylenic It'kla, and a Toydarian named Lorfo, Nejaa pretended to be the fugitive researcher. He allowed himself to be captured by the Techno Union's hired thugs, and had it arranged so he would be rescued by Ylenic and Jedi Knight Aayla Secura. With the help of Aayla, he made the thugs believe that the flawed files and prototype they had taken from him were the genuine article. He hoped that proving the Separatists were attempting to create a new generation of battle droids would spur the Corellian Jedi to join their brethren in the Clone Wars.

The success of this plan is unknown, but it can speculated that maybe it didn't work as well as Nejaa had hoped, for a saying survived decades later stating that a Corellian Jedi who left the system did so at his own peril. This saying, regardless of its time and place of origin, did not deter Nejaa from leaving Corellia to fight in the Clone Wars, although he and Rostek did joke about it. He also promised both Rostek and his wife that he would not die in the Clone Wars.

Nejaa kept his promise. After the Clone Wars ended, he was approached by a Jedi General known only as Desertwind. This Jedi asked Nejaa and Ylenic to accompany him on a very special mission. The three ended up on a moon called Suarbi 7/5, better known as Susevfi, where they engaged a group of Dark Jedi. One of them, an Anzati named Nikkos Tyris, disarmed Nejaa and dealt him a mortal blow, but Nejaa was able to save Ylenic and the other Jedi by sucking the energy out of Tyris's lightsaber and using that energy to create an invisible fist to crush Tyris.

Ylenic brought Nejaa's effects back to his wife and ten year-old son on Corellia. Missing were Nejaa's body and lightsaber. His body had faded away after his death, and the Galactic Museum on Coruscant had asked for his lightsaber. He was greatly mourned, and many tributes were paid to him upon his death. Nejaa was around forty years of age when he died.

Physically, he was of average height and weight, with a trim build. He had light hair, green eyes, and later in life grew a full beard. He was considered good-looking by some. Nejaa's son and grandson would come to stand like he did, and his grandson would even inherit his eyes and chin.
