Once upon a time
It seemed like a brilliant idea
We would turn on the TV
And watch another's life story
Heroic deeds and cunning schemes
Miraculous feats and heartbreaking tragedy
The fact that it once had happened
Drew us increasingly to the screen
But there came a time
When the novelty began to wear off
There was only so much we could take
Before we became thouroughly disgusted
This kid was switched at birth
This woman was raped by her date
That man saw his friend murdered
Sooner or later, it's all the same
What once was an excellent idea
Has now turned into a lame excuse
For people to capitalize on misery
This is what's become of "Based on a true story"
